Project 3: Stamp Portrait
Assignment
Using Illustrator, you will create a farily realistic vector portrait, which
will live on a stamp. Your choice — do you want to have your cat . . .
your dog . . . your gerbile . . . or yourself on a stamp?
To Do
1. Take a picture of your subject. It can be fun or serious, feel free to play around & take several pictures. Select the one that you want to use for this project & place the image in a 8” x 10” illustrator document.
2. Using the pen tool, recreate the image. You will need to simplify the forms and shadows.
3. Select a simple color palette of just 2 colors. Use a spot color (or a global color) to more easily control the values that you will use. Use the tint slider to create values of your selected color in increments of 20. You must use all 5 values (ex. 100%, 80%, etc.) for each color. Do not recreate the background, instead use one of the secondary colors to create a flat background. Use layers & be sure they are well organized and well named. These layers should be clear enough that someone who has NEVER seen your file before should be able to figure them out.
4. After receiving approval from your instructor on the final portrait, mock it up on a set of stamps. For mockups with multiple stamps on a sheet, consider experimenting with the colors in the portrait for variety on the presentation/ADDY board.

Specifications

NOTE: You must also provide a digital process book that includes a brief concept statement, reference images of your subject, and ALL the sources (images, etc) you used to complete the project including images & typography that have influenced your design process in any way.
