Project 2: Sounds Like, Looks Like
Creative Brief
Using Adobe After Effects visualize (a section of) a poem or speech using type, imagery, and symbols in motion. The typeface, color palette, scale, and motion should all work together to enhance the meaning of individual words as well as the entire poem. This project is a technological leap forward from the Design Foundation project Looks Like, Sounds Like, and a similar conceptual approach should be employed. The animation should be around 30-60 seconds depending on pacing. Choose a poem that has a dynamic reading that you will use as the audio content for your animation*.

Some Examples:
Amanda Gorman's - "The Hill We Climb"
Joy Harjo's - "I Give You Back"
Erik Ott's - “Falling in Like”
Ed Mabrey's - "Pursuit of Happyness"
Denice Frohman's - "Accents"
Harry Baker's - "59 Poem"

*If you intend to enter it in competitions, you should find a file that is in the public domain (i.e. not copyright protected). You MAY NOT USE music or lyrics. (don't worry you'll do a music video in CG4)
Basic Process
- Go online to research contemporary kinetic typography videos. Deconstruct how they look/work and whether or not the motion is intended to enhance meaning or grab attention (both are effective uses of motion)
- Brainstorm and document (storyboard) possible quotes as well as movements and effects consistent with the content of the quote
- Animate a single line of the scene to become familiar with the software and its capabilities
- Check with your instructor before moving forward to animate the entire scene/quote.
Learning Objectives
- Develop technical acumen with the time-based design software (After Effects)
- Develop the ability to use animation and written language in combination in order to enhance communication
- Develop the ability to choreograph typography and sound to increase impact by focusing the viewer’s attention
- Continue to develop two-dimensional design problem-solving skills
Deliverables:
1. Animation of the full quote/scene. The file should be HD resolution (1920x1080) using H.264 format (codec/compression) as an  MPEG4 file (.mp4). The naming convention is lastname_poemname.mp4
2. Process Book fully documenting inspiration, thumbnails, roughs, tight roughs, and final. Process book must include your concept statement as well as relevant technical information. Remember documenting stages in digital media requires that you save versions and/or take screenshots.
3. All digital files in standard dropbox folder configuration (1. Process, 2. Working, 3. Final, 4. Client or Vendor)
