PROJECT 4: MOVIE MONTAGE
Creative Brief - Part A
Combine two or more existing film concepts to create a (18x24) poster for a movie that is coming out soon. Choose films that allow for you to develop your own storyline (concept). Develop your concept including an aesthetic, a title, and even characters. Using the appropriate software, design an authentic movie poster including information about release dates, actors, director, and ratings. Content is up to you, however, the more realistic the content is, the stronger your project will be.
• Research existing movie posters to determine typical and necessary content
• Consider films that are unrelated but have a common theme
• Brainstorm possible narratives, aesthetics and design approaches
• This is a print project, so build your files accordingly (resolution, dpi, size, etc.)
• Seek the approval of your instructor before moving your strongest concept forward
Creative Brief - Part B
Building upon the concept that you developed in the first part of this project, design an introduction sequence, about 1-2 minutes, for the movie that displays the title & credit information by combining type, graphics & sound. Remember that the title sequence does not attempt to tell the story. It merely sets the stage for the first scene. To be clear this is NOT a trailer. It is a title sequence. In addition to adding it to DropBox you will also host it on YouTube (the video can be “unlisted”)
• Research contemporary title sequences for guidance on what information is necessary/customary
• Sketch storyboards to show progression of sequence
• This is a digital project...build your files accordingly (resolution, dpi, size, etc.)
• Seek the approval of your instructor before taking your strongest concept to the computer
Creative Brief - Part C
Prepare an ADDY board to show all of the elements of the project. Use flat artwork and digital mockups as necessary to show your work.
Learning Objectives
• Continue to develop skills with the core design software (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator)
• Continue to develop skills with the time-based design software (After Effects, Premiere)
• Begin to develop skills with template-driven interactive media (portfolio.adobe.com)
• Develop the ability to choreograph imagery and sound to increase impact by focusing the viewer’s attention
• Continue to develop the ability to transpose a design solution across multiple media/applications while maintaining a consistent visual language
